Filming of Un funeral de locos, directed by Manuel Gómez Pereira, is currently underway in Gipuzkoa. The film maker from Madrid, creator of great comic hits in Spain such as Salsa rosa, ¿Por qué lo llaman amor cuando lo quieren decir sexo?, Boca a boca or El amor perjudica seriamente la salud, and thrillers such as Entre las piernas  (selected in competition at the Berlinale),returns to the big screen because, although he has been working on series, he has not released a Spanish production since the thriller The Ignorance of Blood [+see also:

With a screenplay by the film maker's regular collaborator Yolanda García Serrano (together they won the 1994 Goya for Best Screenplay for Todos los hombres sois iguales), Un funeral de locos is a choral comedy that brings together a cast of well-known Spanish names, such as Quim Gutiérrez (Goya winner for Darkbluealmostblack [+see also:

), Gorka Otxoa (the series Alpha Males), the comedians Arturo Valls and Santi Ugalde, and the veteran Antonio Resines, among others, along with the Mexican Esmeralda Pimentel.

Some of them play the members of a family who come together to bid farewell to the recently deceased patriarch. But what should be an emotional funeral turns into a frenzied gathering when one of the attendees exposes the deceased's best-kept secret. From that moment on, blackmail, hallucinations and deranged relationships come together at this chaotic gathering.

In the words of the director: When the producer María Luisa Gutiérrez brought me this project, I found it irresistible and accepted immediately. It has a perfectly structured script and the characters are recognisable, realistic and make us laugh and cry...What more could I ask of a devilish comedy where nothing is what it seems and everything takes place in less than 24 hours, as well as a wonderful cast perfectly suited to their roles? He continues: “I love this genre because it is the best way to tell stories. You throw human relationships into crisis and reflect on them. Un funeral de locos draws heavily on Vaudeville, the comedy of entanglement with a complicated and ingenious plot and an unexpected ending."

Un funeral de locos is produced by Bowfinger Int. Pictures in co-production with Sony Pictures International ProductionsEsto también pasarGlow Animation, Un Funeral de muerte AIE and the Mexican firm SDB Films, together with Atresmedia and the support of ICAA. Distribution in Spain will be handled by Sony Pictures Entertainment Iberia, who plan to release the film at Easter next year.
