, the Norwegian-Palestinian documentary directed by Basel Adra, Hamdan Ballal, Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, programmed in the Puerta Europa section, will compete in the Best Documentary category.

Held last November, the 21st Seville European Film Festival served as an authentic showcase of European cinematic trends. Featuring nearly 90 premieres in Spain, the event not only anticipated the international awards season, but also acted as a platform for commercial releases.

The festival’s jury had already recognised the talent of two films now nominated for Oscars. The Girl with the Needle received four awards: Best Director (Magnus Von Horn), Best Actress (Trine Dyrholm), Best Cinematography (Michał Dymek) and Best Production Design (Jagna Dobesz). Meanwhile, Flow won the Grand Jury Prize, the Best Editing Award (also by Zilbalodis) and the Puerta América Prize.

Introduced as a new addition last year, the Puerta América Prize was awarded to films across various sections representing their countries in the race for Best International Feature Film. This initiative broadened the festival’s programming diversity and allowed the Seville audience to discover, ahead of everyone else, works that are now shining in the awards season.

The success of these films not only validates the quality of the Seville Festival’s programming, but also reinforces its role as a cultural bridge between Europe and the rest of the world, showcasing remarkable stories and talents that make a difference in the film industry.
