by

Seven new films have been added to the list of films receiving box office advances in 2003. And in the meantime the director general of the National Film Centre (CNC), David Kessler, has also published the figures given to the previous eight feature length films that were chosen by the Advances Commission, and which will share more than €2.2 million.

Five of the new entries are feature length films: Le passager by Eric Caravaca (produced by Michel Saint-Jean for Diaphana), Itinéraires by Christophe Otzenberger (Patrick Sobelman - Ex Nihilo), Mother and child by Didier Flamand (Catherine Jacques - L films), Les invisibles by Thierry Jousse (François Marquis - Les Productions Bagheera) and Je t'aime tant by Martial Fougeron (Frédéric Niedermayer - Moby Dick films). There are also two documentaries: Sorties de secours by Patrice Chagnard (Denis Freyd - Archipel 35) and Moins qu'un animal by Sophie Bruneau and Marc-Antoine Roudil (Alain Rozanes - ADR Productions).

The precise figures for the funding for the 8 films previously awarded box office advances have been outlined by the director general of the CNC: the grants total €2,212,600, being divided between 5 feature length films supported before production, and three after the production has finished. The first 5 were awarded €400,000: Vahé by Frédéric Balekdjian (Orsans Productions), El cantor by Joseph Morder (La Vie est Belle Films Associés ) and Nelly (ex. Quand on est mort, c'est pour la vie) by Laure Duthilleul (Marie-Amélie production). The Hungarian director Bela Tarr will receive €380,000 for L'homme de Londres (produced by Ognon Pictures & Cinéma Soleil), while Blanche Neige la suite by Picha (Tchin Tchin production) will be given €360,000.
The films receiving box office advances that have already been made, will be sharing a total of €272,600: L'esquive by Abdellatif Kechiche (Lola films) and Le furet by Jean-Pierre Mocky (Profidev) will each be receiving €76,300; and €120,000 is being given to Violent days by Lucile Chaufour (Agar 31).
