New funding awarded to four upcoming Luxembourg-Canada audiovisual collaborations
- The Canada Media Fund and Film Fund Luxembourg awarded two animation productions and two XR projects

On 20 February 20, the Joint Commission of the Film Fund Luxembourg (FFL) and the Canada Media Fund (CMF) approved development and production funding totalling €314,000 (FFL) and 400,000 CAD (CMF) for four audiovisual projects.
Launched in 2018, the incentive by the Canada Media Fund and Film Fund Luxembourg aims to strengthen audiovisual collaboration between Luxembourg and Canada. Eligible projects must be submitted by producers who meet the criteria of both organisations.
The programme supports the joint development of television projects, in both fiction and animation, animated feature films, and digital media initiatives. It also fosters the co-production of digital media projects, such as AR, VR, transmedia, and emerging technologies, involving production companies from both countries.
Two of the films will receive development support. Welcome to Earth (Les agents des étoiles), an animated feature written by Cyril Bossmann and directed by Sarah Sutter, both from Luxembourg, has secured €30,000 from FFL and 34,400 CAD from FMC, with additional backing from Zeilt Productions for Luxembourg and Productions des Années Lumière for Canada.
The second project, Algorythme, is an animated series co-written by Canadian screenwriter Geneviève Sarrazin and the already mentioned Cyril Bossmann, directed by Francis Gelinas, from Canada. It will receive €26,000 (FFL) and 40,600 CAD (FMC) and is produced by Zeilt Production (Luxembourg) and Films Extérieur Jour (Canada).
The XR project Ghost Ship will be granted production support. Written and directed by Canadian director Gregory Kaufman, with writing contributions from American screenwriter Benjamin Steiger Levine, the immersive drama has been awarded €128,000 (FFL) and 200,000 CAD (FMC). The production is handled by Luxembourg’s Skill Lab and Canada’s Telescope Films.
Another XR project, La forêt qui murmure (Whispering Forest), a documentary written and directed by Katarzyna Kot (Luxembourg) and Stéphane Guiran (France), has been granted €130,000 (FFL) and 125,000 CAD (FMC) for production. It is produced by Iris Productions (Luxembourg) and Jaxa Production (Canada).
