The eighth Málaga WIP will showcase 16 Spanish and Latin American films
- The industry area of the Málaga Film Festival will present fiction films in the post-production phase and introduce a new section dedicated to documentary projects, Mercadoc.0

The eighth edition of Málaga Work in Progress (the section of MAFIZ, the industry area of the Malaga Film Festival, which opens its 28th edition on Friday 14 March), focuses on Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin American films in the post-production phase and has selected 16 titles. Also, FICVIÑA will present four Chilean productions under the FICVIÑA Showcase label. The films (a complete list of which can be found below) will be screened from 18 to 20 March for sales agents, festival programmers and international funds to support their completion and promote their international distribution. The pitching of the projects, scheduled for Friday 21 March, will conclude the event.
Among the eight Spanish films are two from Murcia, the focus of this year’s Territory section. Eight Latin American productions will also be presented, including two from the Dominican Republic, the guest country at this year's festival. Málaga WIP is part of Spanish Screenings Content, an event designed as an international promotional platform to boost the sales of Spanish films. In 2025, it will hold its 19th edition as an official market for the sale and promotion of Spanish films.
Two juries will determine the winners of the Málaga Film Festival Award, with 5,000 euros for a Spanish film and 5, 000 euros for an Ibero-American film. The Malaga WIP Spain jury will include director and editor Alejandra Almirón, Jana Wolff (EFM-Berlinale) and Raúl Camargo (FICValdivia), while the Málaga WIP Ibero-America jury will be made up of Paola Buontempo (Documenta Madrid), Marco Muhletaler (PUCP) and Teresa Toledo (Casa América).
On the other hand, this year sees the creation of Mercadoc.0, a new section that will take place from 18 to 21 March, featuring 14 documentary projects: six Ibero-American and eight Spanish, including two from Zona Málaga and a third from Murcia, the focus of Territories (the complete list of projects can also be found at the end of this article). In addition, a training programme has been designed to focus on both the creative and financial aspects of generating viable, high-quality documentaries with internationalisation potential. The selection was made by Annabelle Aramburu, coordinator of MAFIZ; Leonardo Ordóñez, general manager of the Santiago Creativo Foundation; and Walter Tiepelmann, industry director of FIDBA and producer.
