Pan-European streaming platform SkyShowtime has commissioned Where the Sun Always Shines, a new dark Swedish dramedy series created by writer and actor Felix Herngren.

Herngren is best known for creating and acting in the Swedish television drama-comedy series The Sunny Side. The Stockholm-born artist also penned and helmed the film The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared [+see also:

(2013), which has been screened in more than 40 countries and has grossed over $50 million worldwide. He also wrote and directed its sequel, The 101-Year-Old Man Who Skipped Out on the Bill and Disappeared [+see also:

, released in 2016.

Set against the backdrop of Mallorca, Where the Sun Always Shines follows Tom (played by Per Lasson) and Petra (Lisa Linnertorp), a successful couple who have built up a large Ica Maxi store in Linköping and sold it for a record sum. They have been living a life of luxury on Mallorca with their sons for a month, ready to enjoy an eternal vacation. But their lives take an unexpected turn during Tom’s 50th birthday party, leading his brother Timmy (Erik “Jerka” Johansson) and his wife Maja (Rakel Wärmländer) to move their family to the sunny climes of the island, where chaos ensues.

) is joined by scriptwriter Josefin Johansson (Love & Anarchy, Top Dog), with Jessica Ericstam (The Sunny Side, Meaning of Life) serving as the executive producer for Stockholm-based firm FLX, which is co-producing the six-part series with SkyShowtime and Swedish public broadcaster SVT.

Kai Finke, chief content officer at SkyShowtime, expressed enthusiasm for the project: “This fantastic dramedy will be a treat for audiences. SkyShowtime’s commitment to local storytelling allows us to collaborate with Europe’s top creative talent, both in front of and behind the camera. It has been a privilege to work alongside Felix and this stellar cast.”

Herngren added: “Many dream of a new life in the sun – and so did my family and I. After just a week in our new country, Spain, the idea for this series began to take shape. There were so many life stories, dreams, and fascinating cultural clashes to turn into drama and comedy. And I’m especially happy that SkyShowtime wanted to develop it with us.”

Filming took place on location on Mallorca, with the series set to premiere on SkyShowtime later this year.
