With a screenplay written by the director herself, alongside José Ortuño and producer Olmo Figueredo González-Quevedo (from La Claqueta PC), 9 Lunas is a feel-good movie about a trans man who must challenge his own understanding of his identity by confronting his past demons.

The film tells the story of Ángel (played by Zack Gómez-Rolls), a personal trainer who, after a year off, has just been hired by the best gym in the city and everything seems to be going smoothly. But his world is turned upside down when he starts to feel unwell, goes to hospital, and receives unexpected news: he is pregnant. Ángel, a trans man who was only one step away from completing his transition, must now face a decision that will challenge his identity, his dreams, and his understanding of his own masculinity.

Patricia Ortega explains: “Life, like pregnancy, is a constant process of transformation. Not everyone understands these changes, but there are always those who embrace you and support you without judgement. The film is about family, friends and even strangers who appear when you need them most. This film is dedicated to those who lovingly welcome what the world sometimes labels as different, strange or abnormal.”

Born in Venezuela and a graduate of the International Film and Television School of San Antonio de los Baños (EICTV) in Cuba, specialising in directing, and at the Filmakademie in Ludwigsburg (Germany), specialising in documentary, Patricia Ortega released her debut film Yo, Imposible in 2018, selected as a pre-candidate for the Oscars on behalf of Venezuela. And the aforementioned Mamacruz, after its premiere at Sundance, visited and triumphed at various film festivals around the world.

9 Lunas is a production by La Claqueta PC with executive production by Sara Gómez and in co-production with La Cruda Realidad (Spain), Amania Films (Spain) and Hans Everaert for Menuetto Films (Belgium). It has the backing of the ICAA, the support of the Andalusian Agency of Cultural Institutions, Creative Europe MEDIA, the Eurimages fund and the Belgian Tax Shelter, as well as the participation of Movistar Plus+ and Canal Sur Radio y Televisión. Caramel Films will distribute the film in Spain.
