“The meeting point for the new generation of cinema, to provide an overview of the latest trends and an opportunity to study the most recent new languages in cinematography”. This is the aim of the 41st edition of the Gijón International Film Festival, an event that has seen an substantial rise in audiences and increasing interest from professionals in the sector. The Festival started on November 20 and goes on until November 29, when there will be the prize giving ceremony. The jury includes participation by the Spanish producer Tomàs Cimadevilla and the Swiss distributor, Christina Saredi.
This year’s programme features more 200 screenings, and the Official Selection includes The Return by the Russian Andrei Zvyaginstev, the winner of the olden Lion at the 203 Venice Film festival, Bodysong by British director, Simon Pummel, the Icelandic hit by Dagur Kari, Noi the Albino and the Italian filmmaker Costanza Quadriglio, who is heading for Spain after her success at the last Cannes Film Festival with The Island.

The other sections in the festival include one dedicated to New Spanish Cinema, as well as the competitive section, Enfants terribles, which is presenting 9 feature length films aimed at youngsters and children. There are also a series of retrospectives of films by young but already famous European authors, like the Austrian Ulrich Seidl and the French director Olivier Assayas.
