Europa Distribution heads to Focus Asia in Udine

From 27-30 April, members of Europa Distribution (ED) will gather in Udine to hold the association’s third workshop in the context of Focus Asia, the industry strand of the Far East Film Festival. Around 15 independent distributors, which are members of ED, the European Network of Independent Film Distributors and Publishers, will attend the activities dedicated to Asian films hosted by the festival and will participate in a panel on 28 April, organised as a collaborative effort between ED, Focus Asia and Ties That Bind.

The 60-minute panel will centre on several case studies on films and their distribution, specifically concerning Caught by the Tides by Jia Zhangke and All We Imagine as Light [+see also:

by Payal Kapadia. Speakers will compare and contrast their release strategies, looking at aspects such as acquisition, marketing, press, release plans, audience reach and results attained both theatrically and online, as well as how they adapted their tactics to suit their own region. This year’s speakers (and members of the association) are Daiva Visockytė (Kino Pavasaris, Lithuania), Irene Zoccolan (Tucker Films, Italy) and Albert Yao (Swallow Wings, Taiwan). Stephan Holl, co-founder of Rapid Eye Movies in Germany, will moderate the panel.

In light of the partnership between Europa Distribution and Focus Asia, distributors in attendance will also have the opportunity to participate in other activities during Focus Asia, such as work-in-progress presentations, screenings and networking events.

ED will continue to organise many more events in 2025. It has renewed its partnership with the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and will be hosting a working session on the distribution and exhibition of animated films across diverse regions together with CICAE, the International Confederation of Arthouse Cinemas, from 10-12 June. In August, the focus will be on Nordic films, with a panel organised during New Nordic Films in Haugesund.

Articles on all events are published on Cineuropa, and on Europa Distribution’s socials and website.
