The facts & figures of Noir in Fest

The 13th edition of festival dedicated to the crossover of literature and cinema in the realm of mystery and fear, Noir in Fest, will be back in Courmayeur from December 4 to 10. This year’s festival is dedicated to the memory of Oreste del Buono, the event’s historic president, who died at the end of September, 2003. Noir in Fest will be putting on an Italian Cinema special this year, looking at its whodunit tradition. The guests of honour will be Dario Argento with his new film, The Card Player, David Grieco with Evilenko, Eros Puglielli and his Eyes of Crystal [+see also:

and Roberto Andò with Sotto falso nome.

The official selection, featuring works both in and out of competition, includes 15 premieres: from the legal thriller Runaway Jury starring Dustin Hoffman and Gene Hackman and based on the book by John Grisham, to the French Michel Vaillant from Luc Besson’s stable; to the world of a serial killer by the British director Julian Richards in The Last Horror Movie to Jannik Johansen’s Danish petty thieves in Stealing Rembrandt without forgetting the Italian Manetti brothers with their Il giorno del lupo, based on the character in the book of the same name by Carlo Lucarelli.

On the literary side, there’ll be the national Alberto Tedeschi prize, which is being given this year to the music critic Lorenzo Arruga, who’s just written his first detective novel. The international Raymond Chandler Award will be given to James Grady, the author of Six Days of the Condor.

This year’s Noir in Fest also sees a new collaboration with Sky, which will be sponsoring a Public Prize and the satellite pay-tv service will also be putting forward a documentary by Luigi Gabbioneta it produced, which was shot behind the scenes of the film by David Grieco, starring Malcolm McDowell as the monster of Rostov. Finally ElleU Multimedia will be organising an exhibition of photos by Fabian Cavalloz, shot behind the scenes of Evilenko, which is due to be released in cinemas next spring.
