film profile], the eccentric Marseille-set comedy co-directed by Marcia Romano and Benoît Sabatier, following its world premiere in the ACID selection of last year’s Cannes Film Festival.
The film has been acquired by JHR for France, Filmin for Spain, and Sooner for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Meanwhile, in the Netherlands, Eye Film Institute will release Fotogenico theatrically, with a launch set for 14 August.
Fotogenico follows Raoul (Christophe Paou) as he rushes to Marseille after the death of his daughter, Agnès. Armed with little more than a handful of names and addresses from her life, Raoul is plunged into a chaotic, unfamiliar world where nothing feels real – except for the haunting album she left behind. As he navigates the raucous energy of Agnès' existence, Raoul must determine whether he is moving closer to his own demise or the start of something new.
Quentin Worthington, of MPM Premium, commented: “Fotogenico is an eccentric comedy based in Marseille, France’s most vibrant city for creatives and artists. We’re happy to see foreign audiences in the Benelux, Spain, Germany, Austria and Switzerland discover an indie French film fuelled by a lot of energy, creativity, wildness and fun at its heart, celebrating a city at the vanguard of French cinema.”
Produced by Envie de Tempête in co-production with Micro Climat, the feature was made with the support of the CNC, PROCIREP and ANGOA. Following its debut at Cannes, Fotogenico also screened at the FIC.UBA – Festival Internacional de Cine de la UBA, where it picked up a Special Mention, as well as other international gatherings such as Cork, Valencia, Goa, Leiden and Mons.
