Preparations for the Marché du Film (May 13–21) of the 78th Cannes Film Festival are in full swing at Indie Sales, the French international sales company led by Nicolas Eschbach. The company will arrive on the Croisette with a great deal of optimism, showcasing three titles from its line-up in the parallel sections.

Indie Sales is aiming to strike good deals, particularly with two feature films selected for Critics’ Week. The first is Adam's Sake by Belgian director Laura Wandel. Revealed in Un Certain Regard in 2021 with Playground [+see also:

, the filmmaker now brings together Léa Drucker and Anamaria Vartolomei in leading roles for a story centered on 4-year-old Adam, who is hospitalised for malnutrition following a court ruling. Lucy, the head nurse, allows Adam’s mother to stay with him beyond the visiting hours set by the judge. But things get complicated when she once again refuses to leave her son. In the child’s best interest, Lucy will do everything she can to help this distressed mother… Produced by Dragons Films and Les Films du Fleuve and co-produced by Les Films de Pierre and Lunanime, Adam’s Sake will be released in French theaters on October 21 by Memento Distribution.

The French sales agent also has in its portfolio the closing film of Critics’ Week: the animated feature Dandelion's Odyssey, the debut feature by Japanese-born, France-based filmmaker Momoko Seto. The film has no dialogue and tells the misadventures of Dendelion, Baraban, Léonto, and Taraxa—four dandelion seeds that survive a series of nuclear explosions that destroy Earth and are launched into outer space. After crashing on an unknown planet, they set out in search of land suitable for the survival of their species. But elements, fauna, flora, and climate are all obstacles they must overcome… Produced by Miyu Productions and Ecce Films and co-produced by Arte France Cinéma, Umedia, CNRS and Reepost, the film will be distributed in France by Gebeka Films.

The Indie Sales team will also be banking on the 100% Canadian production Amour Apocalyse (Peak Everything) by Anne Émond at the Directors’ Fortnight (Émond previously featured in Locarno’s Filmmakers of the Present section in 2015 with Our Loved Ones, and has been selected three times at the Toronto International Film Festival).

Also worth mentioning in the line-up: a market screening of Aux jours qui viennent (No Way Back) by Nathalie Najem (article - with Zita Hanrot and Bastien Bouillon in the cast) which Paname Distribution will release in France on July 23; and in the pre-sales and post-production section, the spy thriller Mata by Rachel Lang (article).
