BFI launches screenonline

An unrivalled collection of film and TV footage from the BFI National Film and TV Archive is being made available online for the first time, as an educational and research tool for schools and film lovers.

More than 100 hours of streamed moving images from 300 films and TV programmes can be viewed on the website Screenonline, which is backed by the British Film Institute (BFI) and the Lottery supported New Opportunities Fund. The BFI comprehensive collection of film and TV material is divided into various topics for easy consultation, such as English Hitchcock; Shakespeare on Screen; Children’s TV; Black, Asian and Chinese Collections; TV sitcoms or Ealing comedies. Apart from film and TV footage, Screenonline also offers a range of biographies, stills and articles related to British history, culture and society as seen through cinema.
