The 10th edition of the Book Adaptation Rights Market, initiated by Venice Production Bridge and connecting literary agents with producers attending the 82nd Venice Film Festival in order to formalise deals on potential film adaptations of books, will unspool between 29 and 31 August. The VPB Focus for this year will be dedicated to the UK, Chile and Morocco.

Following a call launched on 14 January, 30 international publishing houses and literary agents have been selected for the event, plus another 4 for the VPB Focus sessions: 2 for the Focus on the UK supported by the British Film Institute, 1 for the Chile Focus backed by the Chilean Government’s Ministry for Culture, Art and Heritage, and 1 for the Morocco Focus supported by the Moroccan Film Centre. The meetings taking place with producers will provide an opportunity to formalise deals for film adaptations of novels, dramas, children’s literature, short stories, comic books, graphic novels, essays and biographies.

Unlike other initiatives dedicated to the publishing world within film festival settings, the Book Adaptation Rights Market will allow invited publishers to bring along their entire catalogue of texts available for adaptation into film screenplays, rather than just one book or volume.

The 34 publishers and literary agents selected for this edition of the Book Adaptation Rights Market are: ALT autores Editorial (Spain), Andrew Nurnberg Associates (UK) – Focus on United Kingdom, Astier-Pécher Literary Agency (France), Banke, Goumen & Smirnova Literary Agency (Sweden/Cyprus), BAO Publishing srl (Italy), Blue Ocean Press (USA), Carlsen Verlag GmbH (Germany), Catrina Wessels Rights Management (South Africa), Editions HSN / Humanoids / Boîte à Bulles (France/USA), Editorial Anagrama S.A.U (Spain), Gruppo editoriale Mauri Spagnol (GeMS) (Italy), Giulio Einaudi Editore (Italy), Giunti Editore/Bompiani (Italy), Grandi & Associati (Italy), Gruppo Feltrinelli (Italy), Gyldendal Group Agency (Denmark), Hanser Literaturverlage (Germany), Jacaranda Books (UK) – Focus on United Kingdom, Kein & Aber (Switzerland), La Corte Editore (Italy), Madrigall (France), MalaTesta Literary Agency (Italy), Milflores Publishing (Philippines), Mondadori Business Unit Ragazzi / Sperling & Kupfer / Piemme (Italy), Mondadori Libri SpA (Italy), Otago Literary Agency (Italy), Outsiders Storytelling & Beyond (Morocco) – Focus on Morocco, Rowohlt Verlag GmbH (Germany), S. The new booklet containing the details of the publishers invited to this year’s Book Adaptation Rights Market will soon be available within the “VPB Brochures Downloads” section of the Venice Production Bridge website.
