The last clapperboard slams on Mariko Minoguchi’s The Other Side

- The Munich-born writer-director returns for her sophomore feature, starring Nina Hoss and due out in German cinemas next year

Shooting has just wrapped on Mariko Minoguchi’s The Other Side (German title: Die andere Seite), starring Nina Hoss as Hanna, a doctor who goes into self-isolation in the Austrian alpine region of East Tyrol during an epidemic and after the loss of her family. Minoguchi also serves as the film’s screenwriter. Principal photography began late last year and wrapped in June 2025.
The adventure-thriller will be the German director's sophomore feature, following Relativity [+see also:

film profile], which enjoyed its world premiere at the Munich International Film Festival in 2019 and was decorated with the German Film Critics’ Award for Best Debut Film and Best Screenplay. Several members of the crew have been revealed, including DoP Felix Pflieger, editor Monika Willi, set designer Marie-Luise Balzer, costume designer Sophie Klebba and sound designer Tong Zhang.
Minoguchi most recently directed one episode of the four-part anthology series Zeit Verbrechen [+see also:

series profile], which premiered in the 2024 Berlinale’s Panorama strand. She was also part of German Films’ special tenth edition of its Face to Face campaign at the 2025 Berlinale, chosen as one of the selected talents (see the interview).
Trini Götze and David Armati Lechner are producing The Other Side for Munich-based Trimafilm, in co-production with Constanze Schumann for Austria’s Rundfilm. Additional funding was provided by the German Federal Film Board (FFA), FFF Bayern, the German Federal Government Commission for Culture and the Media (BKM), Cine Tirol, the Austrian Film Institute (ÖFI) and the German Federal Film Fund (DFFF). X Verleih is set to distribute the movie in Germany in 2026 in cooperation with Warner Bros.
