BOX OFFICE Sweden

Five films in the top 10

by

Last week, as many as five Swedish films were in the local Top ten list of box office hits including Mikael Håfström's Evil representing Sweden this year at the Academy Awards nominations.
Evil released by Nordisk/Columbia Tri Star and still playing in 88 screens after 10 weeks release, has sold over 700,000 tickets so far in Sweden. The other four Swedish films are Anders Nilsson's The Third Wave, a Sonet Film release, Björn Runge's Daybreak with Pernilla August, released by Triangel Film, Ulf Malmros' Slim Susie released by Sandrew Metronome and Kjell-Åke Andersson's Let's Play House, a Svensk Filmindustri film.

Daniel Lind Lagerlöff's romantic film Miffo released by Sonet Film is also doing well with over 450,000 admissions since its August release, and was just voted Best film at the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival. So far, eleven of this autumn's 15 Swedish feature films have been released.
"It's wonderful to see that more than half of this autumn's films have enjoyed such a strong audience response, especially given the broad range they represent. We have drama, action and comedy by directors from different generations", said the Swedish Film Institute's Managing Director Åse Kleveland.
