Production is now underway in the UK on Sense and Sensibility, Focus Features’ and Working Title Films’ new take on Jane Austen’s titular novel of 1811. Helmed by BAFTA Award nominee Georgia Oakley (Blue Jean [+see also:

) based on a script by bestselling author Diana Reid (Love & Virtue), the project promises to bring modern sensibility to the classic period drama.

The adaptation stars Daisy Edgar-Jones (known for her turn in the series Normal People) and Esmé Creed-Miles (known for the series Hanna, seen at Cannes this year in The Chronology of Water [+see also:

) in the roles of Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, respectively.

The cast has now been finalised with the addition of Caitríona Balfe (nominated for a Golden Globe for her work in the series Outlander and for a BAFTA for her performance in Belfast [+see also:

Sense and Sensibility is being produced by Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner for Working Title Films, India Flint for November Pictures, and Jo Wallett.

Austen’s novel has been adapted for the screen several times before, most notably in the form of Ang Lee’s 1995 movie, winner of the Berlinale’s Golden Bear and the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay, and starring Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet and Hugh Grant.
