Beta Film strengthens its CEE slate with Bosnian mystery series Komar
- The 8x60-minute show, directed by Vedran Rupič and Una Gunjak, marks the third collaboration between BH Telecom and the German sales agent

Beta Film has added another major CEE title to its portfolio, picking up international distribution rights to the Bosnian mystery-drama Komar. The eight-part series marks the third collaboration between BH Telecom and the German sales agent, following I Know Your Soul and The Hollow.
The new pick-up confirms Beta Film’s long-term investment in high-end drama from the Balkans, an area that has yielded strong results in recent years. Among its most visible successes stands Operation Sabre, the Serbian political thriller that won at Canneseries and the Shanghai TV Festival before airing on ARTE, where it was lauded by the European press as “masterful” (Der Spiegel), and “powerful and committed” (Télérama). Beta’s line-up from the region also includes Jasmila Žbanić’s aforementioned I Know Your Soul, the Bulgarian drama Shattered Bonds, and the Greek hit The Beach.
Produced by BH Telecom (via BH Content Lab) with SCCA/Pro.ba acting as executive producer, Komar revolves around Mersiha (played by Lejla Hakalović). After her boyfriend, Miki, disappears without a trace while travelling through the Komar mountains, Mersiha and her best friend Jasna set out in search of him. At the same time, passengers on Miki’s bus wake up to find themselves stranded in a remote area, cut off from any connection to the outside world. As the mystery deepens, the women realise that dark forces are working against their search.
The showrunner is Timur Makarević, while directing duties are shared by Vedran Rupič and Una Gunjak. Alongside Hakalović, the cast features Pia Vrdoljak and Igor Skvarica.
Komar premiered a year ago in the Avant Premiere section of the 30th Sarajevo Film Festival, where it was warmly received.
