TrustNordisk oversees international sales for Arild Fröhlich’s Vampyr

Danish firm TrustNordisk has secured the international sales rights for Vampyr, a highly anticipated Norwegian thriller directed by Arild Fröhlich (Fatso, Wisting, R.I.P. Henry) and staged by Maipo Film. The project, based on Steffen Kverneland’s acclaimed book of the same name, officially commenced principal photography on 22 October.

The film is set to make its debut to international buyers at the American Film Market in Los Angeles, running from 11-16 November. The story revolves around a struggling author obsessed with Edvard Munch who teeters on the brink of madness when drawn into a dangerous murder mystery. His investigation uncovers a shocking truth about the painter, one that could rewrite history as we know it.

, Kraken) and Carl Martin Eggesbø (SKAM). The film promises to offer “a suspenseful, genre-bending narrative that interrogates the life and legacy of one of the world’s most renowned artists, Edvard Munch”.

“This is the kind of movie we have been waiting for and looking for – and finally, it’s here,” says Nicolai Korsgaard, sales director at TrustNordisk. “Set in the universe of world-famous painter Munch and based on Kverneland’s book, Vampyr offers a cinematic, surprising and captivating experience that pushes the boundaries of storytelling. With its outstanding Norwegian cast, we see strong international potential and look forward to presenting it to the global market.”

Vampyr is being produced by Cornelia Boysen and Petter Onstad Løkke for Maipo Film in co-production with Unlimited Stories (Sweden), Film i Väst (Sweden) and the Oslo Film Fund. The project benefited from the support of the Norwegian Film Institute, the Swedish Film Institute and the Nordisk Film & TV Fond, in collaboration with SVT. Local distribution will be handled by Nordisk Film Distribution.
