05/12/2025 - The new films by Pedro Almodóvar, Javier Fesser, and duo Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, among others, are benefiting from support

At the end of October, the ICAA – Spanish Film and Audiovisual Arts Institute published its definitive resolution on the first 2025 selection procedure for general production support for feature-film projects, through which 27 grants will be given out after 50 projects were submitted. The total amount being provided is €26,650,000, attributable to the Fund for Film Protection. What’s more, yesterday, 4 December, saw the publication of the final resolution on the second 2025 selection procedure for general production support for features, whereby aid was granted to 29 titles for a total sum of €28,350,000, also coming from the Fund for Film Protection.

The titles backed to the tune of €1 million in the first procedure were, among others: Bitter Christmas by Pedro Almodóvar (El Deseo – see the news); La bola negra by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi (Suma Content, El Deseo, Telefónica Audiovisual Digital – see the news); Perfectos conocidos by Javier Fesser (Extraños Conocidos AIE, Telecinco Cinema, Nadie es Perfecto, Películas Pendelton – see the news); La Roja by Marcel Barrena, who previously won a Goya Award for The 47 (La Roja AIE, Beta Fiction Spain y Vilaüt Films); Mestres (Maestras) by Judith Colell (Oberon Media, Vilaut Films); Bilbao 1983 by David Pérez Sañudo (Bilbao 1983 Films AIE, Lazona Producciones, La Claqueta); Hiru Olatuak (Las tres olas) by Paul Urkijo (Hiru Olatuak AIE, Irusoin and Ikusgarri Films); Perifèriques by David Ilundain (Inicia Films); Boulevard by Sonia Méndez (Amets Kalea AIE, Espotlight Media, Lightbox Animation Studios, Maitemindua Zinema); Vengo de ese miedo by Violeta Salama (Vengo de ese miedo AIE, Tornasol and Mocosbi); Saldremos de esta by María Pulido (Lapurreta Zinema, AIE); Bypass by Lucía Casañ Rodríguez (Turanga Films, Ciudadano Ciskul); and Si te contara by Alfonso Albacete (221 Studio Baker, Rodar y Rodar, Sevenfor Servicios Audiovisuales). As for the titles benefiting from funding following the second 2025 procedure, Dreams (Dreams Animation AIE, 4 Cats Pictures, Anangu Grup and Mogambo Productions) is getting €1,200,000, while Mar i cel, an adaptation of the musical by the group Dagoll Dagom being helmed by Paulí Subirà Claramunt (Mr Miyagi Films) and Tot sota el sol (Sábado Películas) each receive €1,020,000. The works getting €1 million, among others, are El malentendido by Álex de la Iglesia (El Malentendido La Película AIE and Pokeepsie Films); Domani by Santos Bacana (Domani E Un Dramma AIE, Little Spain and Elastica Films); Operación Camarón 2 by Carlos Therón (La Pepa La Película AIE); Reina de las hadas by Dani Feixas (Morgana Films AIE, Morena Films and A Contracorriente Films); La dona invisible by Miguel Llorens (Sucedió En Valverde AIE, The Fly Hunter and La Terraza Films); Una casa a la platja by Marisa Crespo and Moisés Romera (Mediacrest Entertainment); Si te he visto no me acuerdo by Mar Olid (Pompon La Película AIE, Castelao Pictures, Bixagu Entertainment); Gloria e Olvido by Paula Cons (Villamiseria AIE and Tandem Films); and Hestia by Jota Linares (Las Películas del Apache and La Filmahora RD). Meanwhile, €900,000 go to Verónica’s Room (Nostromo Pictures and Wasp Network AIE), €445,000 to Narcopiso (Tornasol) and €385,000 to Pueblo chico (Pueblo Chico AIE).
