Short Pitch Program 2026 opens its call for short documentary projects
- Emerging filmmakers from Central and Eastern Europe are invited to submit their short non-fiction projects; the pitch will take place during Millennium Docs Against Gravity in Warsaw in May

The Institute of Documentary Film (IDF), in cooperation with Millennium Docs Against Gravity, has launched the call for the 2026 Short Pitch Program, inviting emerging filmmakers from Central and Eastern Europe to submit short documentary projects of up to 25 minutes in length. The initiative will unfold during the 23rd edition of the festival in Warsaw in May 2026, following an online training module to prepare participants for their pitch.
The Short Pitch Program is open to short documentaries in development or at the rough-cut stage. Seven projects will be selected for this tailored platform, which is designed to support new voices from the region, and help filmmakers refine both the artistic and structural aspects of their works. Participation is free of charge, and applicants are encouraged to review all eligibility criteria before submitting their materials. The deadline for applications is 1 February 2026.
Selected teams will first take part in online pitch training led by industry tutors, focusing on creative approaches, narrative clarity and pitching strategy. During Millennium Docs Against Gravity, the participants will present their films to an industry panel comprising sales agents, distributors, festival programmers and representatives from television channels. Individual meetings will follow the pitch session, offering further space for professional advice, networking and potential collaboration.
An international jury will present the Silver Eye Award to one outstanding project from the selection. The prize recognises innovative storytelling, a strong authorial perspective, and the ability to engage audiences with impactful or challenging subjects. The winning project will also receive one year of festival distribution services provided by East Doc Caravan, supporting its visibility and circulation on the international circuit.
The results of the call will be announced on 2 March. The programme will take place in May 2026 during Millennium Docs Against Gravity, with the exact date to be confirmed. Further details, guidelines and the submission form are available here.
