Ann Petersen dies

The Belgium actress Ann Petersen died on December 12, in the small Flemish village of Opwijk, following a long illness. She was aged 76 and she was preparing to start shooting on the second feature film by Lieven Debrauwer, Confituur, alongside Dora Van der Groen.
The actress was born on June 22, 1927 in Wuustwezel, and she started a career in photography before deciding to become an actress. After studying at the Atelier des Arts Dramatiques in Anversa, she moved to Koninklijke Vlaamse Schouwburg (KVS) in Brussels where she stayed for 30 years. She worked in the theatre and also starred in around 20 films, including Mira by Fons Rademackers in 1971, Koko Flanel by Urbanus in 1990, Manneken Pis by Frank Van Passel in 1995, Left Luggage by Jeroen Krabbe in 1998 and more recently in Pauline & Paulette [+see also:

by Lieven Debrauwer, a performance that won her many awards. But Petersen also worked in television, shooting around 30 TV films and more than 20 series, including the children’s programmes Samson & Gert, Ramona and Le chagrins des Belges, based on the work by Hugo Claus, which won her the Plateau Prize as Best belgium Actress at the Belgium Gand Festival. The death of this actress, that has been called ‘ons moe’ (our mother), is a moment of great national mourning in Flanders today.
