EXCLUSIVE: Trailer for Berlinale Panorama title The Other Side of the Sun
- Tawfik Sabouni’s debut documentary follows the Syrian filmmaker as he returns to Saydnaya prison with four fellow survivors, transforming their shared trauma into collective remembrance

Years after his release from Saydnaya, the notorious Syrian prison known as “the other side of the sun”, filmmaker Tawfik Sabouni returns there following the fall of Assad’s regime in December 2024. Joined by four fellow survivors, he revisits the spaces where they were detained and stages restrained re-enactments of their daily rituals and survival strategies. Filmed inside the former prison, the documentary transforms these gestures into testimony, giving voice not only to the five men, but also to the thousands who did not survive and whose families still seek answers.
