PRODUCTION France

4 Europeans in residence

by

The authorities in charge of the Residence at the next Cannes Film Festival have already chosen the young directors who will be preparing their first or second works. The jury of professionals, led by the French director Arnaud Desplechin, has chosen 6 directors, two thirds of whom are European. They are the Swiss filmmaker Céline Macherel, the Spaniard Jaime Rosales, the Serbian Vladimir Perisic and Dorothée Van Den Berghe from Belgium, as well as the Chinese director Wang Bing and the Israeli Hadar Friedlich.

From February 27, 2004 for the following four months, the six directors will be in Paris to be helped with the writing of their projects and the production preparation. This initiative has been running at the festival for the last few years and it is an opportunity to gain access to a wider public for young authors like Djamshed Usmonov from Tajikistan, the American Peter Sollett, Emily Young from Britain or the Argentinean Lucrecia Martel.
The following session will take place between October 1, 2004 and February 12, 2005 and the entry forms (downloadable on the Cannes Film Festival internet site) have to be sent in to the Cinéfondation office by April 1, 2004. The jury will be meeting on July 8, 2004, to consider the entries to go forward to the final selection process.
