Ciampi blocks the new law

The President of the Italian Republic, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi has refused to sign the Gasparri Law, on the reform of the Italian telvision and radio system, which will be sent back to parliament, where the debate on the legislation will be re-opened. The law was sent back with 5 pages of comments. In one of the key passages, the president writes: "I cannot help but call Parliament’s attention to other parts of the law which, as far as the aspect of pluralism of information is concerned, do not appear to be in line with the laws of the Constitutional Court ".
