Movie.it – Painted Cinema: A Journey through 20th-Century Cinema
- The new Italian project shines a light on the posters and one-sheets which have left their mark on the film world over the past century

Movie.it is a project which has set out to unearth this hidden heritage, making it accessible to the public while paying meticulous attention to detail and ensuring unprecedented quality.
Born out of years of research and collaboration with Italy’s leading collectors, Movie.it has retrieved and catalogued almost all the posters for films released in Italy over the course of the last century. Thanks to modern technology and high-definition professional photography, each poster has been reproduced from first prints, preserving original colours and details, and subsequently optimised to ensure the best possible visual quality.
What makes Movie.it unique isn’t just its trove of historic posters but its approach marrying craftsmanship and professionalism. Each poster is treated as a work of art rather than a mere print. The use of high-quality materials and state-of-the-art HD printers yields results which not only bring the original posters back to life, but project them into a new visual dimension, enhancing every single detail. The use of Canvass, in particular, delivers colour rendition and depth, reviving these works like never before.
With a major exhibition also underway at the Salaborsa di Bologna, the project is far more than a simple commercial showcase.
Its aim is to pay tribute to the history of cinema (access the catalogue here), making a fundamental part of Italy’s visual and cultural memory accessible to the public. It’s not just an initiative for collectors or cinephiles, but an opportunity for anyone who’s not just looking to experience cinema as a memory, but as a tangible work to display, admire and revive.
