film profile], and who also worked on the series Hanna and The Stolen Girl - the mini-series The Nefertiti Case triumphed among the six available or soon-to-be-available titles presented to international professionals (decision-makers, buyers and journalists) yesterday at the Series Mania Forum, within the 11th edition of the Coming Next from France showcase curated by Unifrance.

The 4 x 45-minute series stars Élodie Bouchez (seen last year in The Party’s Over! [+see also:

Created by Clémence Madeleine-Perdrillat (highly regarded for her series writing, notably on Irrésistible, Split, En Thérapie, Drops of God and Nona and Her Daughters, and nominated for this year’s César and Lumières Best Animated Film trophies by way of La Vie de château – Mon enfance à Versailles), who penned the screenplay with Élise Benroubi and Nils-Antoine Sambuc, The Nefertiti Case begins just as a hotly anticipated exhibition is being prepared, the centrepiece of which - the bust of Nefertiti - is broken during installation. Andrea, deputy director of the French Union of National Museums, scrambles to manage the crisis. She has an idea to prevent this serious incident from being leaked so that restorers can fix the bust discreetly: she’ll track down a replica which is identical to the original. But there’s only one forger who’s previously replicated this millennia-old piece to perfection: the Gorgon. Andrea is forced to find this Gorgon, who turns out to be none other than Alba, her very own sister whom she sent to prison two years earlier.

Produced by Edouard de Vésinne and Florent Gellie for Incognita and by Guillaume Dreyfus and Delphine Schmit for Tripode Productions, in co-production with Belgian company Hélicotronc (Julie Esparbes) and Arte France, and with support from HBO Max, The Nefertiti Case is being sold internationally by Incognita Distribution and Film & Picture.

Coming Next from France also shone a light on the drama Sorority (working title – a 6 x 52-minute series produced by Lincoln TV for France 2, notably in co-production with Belgian outfits La Compagnie Cinématographique and Panache Productions, and sold by France tv distribution) as well as on Alice (6 x 45-minutes, previously platformed in the Buyers Upfront section of the Series Mania Forum – read our article).

Finally, rounding off the line-up were three series produced for TF1: the thriller Zodiac (6 x 52 minutes, produced by Felicità Films and Partita Films, and sold by Studio TF1), the crime comedy Country Spy (6 x 52 minutes, produced by DMLS Films and sold by About Premium Content) and the dramedy All Shapes of Us (6 x 52 minutes, produced by Habanita Federation and sold by Federation International).
