Suzanne Lindon has been shooting L’Équipe, her second feature film after Spring Blossom (screened in Cannes’ Official Selection, and also showcased in Toronto’s Discovery line-up and San Sebastián’s New Directors section that same year), since mid-June. The cast is led by Italy’s Pierfrancesco Favino (named Best Actor in Venice for Padrenostro, awarded three David di Donatello trophies, most recently for The Traitor, and nominated a further two times) and young Simon Boublil (who broke out this year in Just An Illusion).

Penned by the director, the script takes us back to the summer of 2007. Fifty-five-year-old former world-renowned footballer turned coach Diego Prince goes on holiday with his only daughter, Rosalie, who’s eight. He confesses the truth to her: he has a son a few years older than her, whom he doesn’t know and didn’t want to have. Diego finally manages to share his onerous secret, but he doesn’t expect Rosalie to ask to meet the child. As it turns out, the father and daughter end up inviting 12-year-old Billy to spend the rest of the summer with them...

L’Équipe is produced by Alexandra Henochsberg for Ad Vitam Films, in co-production with Italy’s Indiana Production. Pre-purchased by Canal+, the feature is also backed by the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region and the French department of Landes. The 37-day shoot will wrap at the end of July in Ile-de-France, with the film’s release in French cinemas set to be handled by Ad Vitam Distribution.

For the record, Ad Vitam Films currently has A Place to Heal by Cédric Kahn in post-production, which has been selected in competition in Venice.
