31/07/2026 - The Slovenian directors’ six-part show follows six young people whose lives are changed forever over the course of a single summer’s day

Filming is under way on Štuk (working title: Planet B), a six-part coming-of-age television miniseries co-directed by emerging Slovenian filmmakers Katja Predan and Áron Horváth Botka. The series explores a single, transformative summer’s day that irrevocably changes the lives of a group of young people standing on the threshold of adulthood.

Set in a student dormitory near Ljubljana, the story follows Mia, Kantar, Mojca, Blaž, Petra and Jasmina, who wake up to what appears to be an ordinary August morning. By the end of the day, however, each of them will have undergone a life-altering experience. Only later will they realise that everything had to happen exactly this way. Described by its makers as an authentic portrait of a generation facing uncertainty, the series examines friendship, identity and the challenges of entering adulthood.

The ensemble cast includes Živa Selan (My Last Year as a Loser, Wake Me), Izidor Vogrinec, Petja Golec Horvat (Desire Lines), Anuša Kodelja (Bitch, A Derogatory Term for a Woman), Marko Rafolt and Milica Krnjaja.

Predan and Horváth Botka co-direct from a screenplay they co-wrote with Slovenian novelist and screenwriter Aleš Čar. Speaking to the Slovenian Film Centre about the project, Horváth Botka said: “With this series, I want to be as playful as possible while also feeling the responsibility to create something authentic. I want to make entertaining episodes that tell stories about real people – young adults finishing their studies and finding themselves at a turning point in their lives, when the future feels more uncertain than ever.” Predan added: “Sometimes, it feels as though an entire lifetime can happen in a single day. It breaks you apart, reshapes you, and you grow from it. You're not yet an adult, but you don't know that. In fact, you never really know.”

Predan graduated in Film and Television Directing from the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television (AGRFT) in Ljubljana in 2024, having previously directed short films. She is also an actress. Horváth Botka, who also graduated from AGRFT, has directed several short films and is currently completing his feature debut, The Lost Years.

Principal photography began in mid-July and will continue until the end of August. Filming is taking place at various locations across Ljubljana, primarily at the Jeglič Student Dormitory in the Šentvid district. The crew features director of photography Veronika Francesca Štefančič, production designer Špela Jelovčan, costume designer Katarina Šavs, make-up artist Tanita Seifert and production manager Mojca Pernat.

Producer Marko Kumer Murč said the idea for the series originated several years ago from his own experiences living in a student residence during his university years. “The story speaks honestly about the experiences, relationships and struggles of today’s young generation, who are facing numerous challenges in a world that is not always kind to them. We are especially pleased that the project is being created by such a balanced creative team, with more women than men among its members, something we consider both important and valuable,” he commented. He added that the production represents “a major milestone and, at the same time, a great creative challenge” for his company, Rusaalka Films.

Štuk is being produced by Kumer Murč for Ljubljana-based Rusaalka Films, and Tina Glavič Novak is serving as executive producer. The show has received financial support from the Slovenian Film Centre, which expanded its audiovisual funding scheme to include original fiction series in 2022. The series is expected to premiere in September 2027.
