Ira Sachs to chair the San Sebastián jury
- The Golden Shell jury led by the US filmmaker will comprise Genki Kawamura, Catherine Paillé, Alice Braga, Patricia López Arnaiz, Bill Skarsgård and Mike Goodridge
The San Sebastián International Film Festival has unveiled the juries for its upcoming 74th edition, which will run from 18-26 September, and whose programme was recently finalised (see the news).
The Official Selection jury will be presided over by US filmmaker Ira Sachs, who this year is taking part in the festival’s Perlak section with The Man I Love, which premiered in competition at the most recent Cannes Film Festival, and who previously appeared in the same strand with Love Is Strange and Little Men. Joining him for the deliberations are Japanese writer-director Genki Kawamura, behind works such as A Hundred Flowers (Silver Shell for Best Director in 2022) and the recent Exit 8; French screenwriter Catherine Paillé, who penned films such as All Hands on Deck, Magnetic Beats and Summer Beats; Brazilian actress and producer Alice Braga, star of features such as City of God and I Am Legend, and more recently series like We Are Who We Are; Basque performer Patricia López Arnaiz, who, after winning the Silver Shell for Best Performance for Glimmers, toplined the Golden Shell winner Sundays and returns to the festival this year with The Harvester; Swedish actor Bill Skarsgård, the lead in, among other titles, It, Nosferatu and Dead Man’s Wire; and British producer Mike Goodridge, who has been involved in works such as Club Zero, The Left-Handed Girl and Ballad of a Small Player.
Meanwhile, the jury of the Kutxabank-New Directors Award will comprise Argentinian producer Juan Pablo Miller, who will chair it; French director, screenwriter and producer Marina Charriton; British journalist and film critic Jonathan Romney; Swiss director, producer and executive Dana Blankstein Cohen; and Spanish actor Tamar Novas (a Goya Award winner for The Sea Inside, recently nominated for Band Together).
The Horizontes Award jury will be chaired by Argentinian producer Agustina Llambi Campbell, who is joined by Uruguayan journalist, professor and film critic Casimiro Torreiro Gómez, and French producer Jérôme Vidal.
Lastly, the Zabaltegi-Tabakalera Award jury will be presided over by former Berlinale executive director Mariette Rissenbeek, who will be joined by Spanish director Ion de Sosa (who took part in Locarno last year with Balearic) and Portuguese filmmaker Catarina Vasconcelos (who already scooped the same award with her debut feature, The Metamorphosis of Birds, which premiered at the Berlinale).
