Cold Mountain in competition

, the film by Anthony Minghella, which will be opening the 2004 Berlinale out of competition. After it's nominations for the Golden Globes, which are the forerunners to the Oscars, the film set during the American civil war and starring Nicole Kidman and Jude Law, has recieved 12 nominations for the BAFTAS, the most prestigious film awards in Britain.

The film is in the running in the most important categories, apart from that of Best Actress, where Nicole Kidman failed tgo get a nomination. Cold Mountain is up for Best Film, Best British Film, Best Director and Best Actor (Jude Law). There are also 12 nominations for The Return of the King, the third part of the “Lord of the Rings” saga, with ten nominations for The Girl with the Pearl Earring [+see also:

The BAFTAS will be awarded during the prize giving ceremony being held in London on February 15, 2004.
