Green Film Lab concludes in Rome with its third workshop
- The new feature by multi-award-winning Romanian director Radu Jude is among the projects selected for the TorinoFilmLab programme promoting sustainable practices in audiovisual production

After the first workshop in Turin (Italy) and the second in Las Palmas (Gran Canaria), Green Film Lab – the programme run by TorinoFilmLab - Museo Nazionale del Cinema, Trentino Film Commission and Green Film that has been promoting sustainable practices in audiovisual production since 2022 – will hold its third and final rendezvous in Rome from 21-23 October, in partnership with Fondazione Roma Lazio Film Commission and in collaboration with the MIA Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo.
The workshop, led by Mercedes Fernandez, aims to promote sustainability in national productions and co-productions, through three days alternating plenary sessions and group work involving 21 selected participants from ten different countries: Albania, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Romania, Spain, Turkey and Hungary.
The curatorial team is led by head of studies Giovanni Pompili, of Kino Produzioni (Italy), who stresses that sustainability is not an added constraint on production. “It’s a different way of designing it, right from the development stage. With Green Film Lab, we work to ensure that producers become the prime drivers of this change. Doing it together with professionals from across Europe and beyond means taking these practices into international co-productions and into the local production fabric.” Joining Pompili are three international experts: Norma Cuadros Gonzalez (Colombia), a sustainability consultant in the UK and Latin America, journalist and environmental activist; Dörte Schneider Garcia (Portugal/Germany), assistant director and sustainability consultant; and Lucie Trémolières (France), a writer-director specialising in eco-storytelling.
Among the six selected projects are the new features by multi-award-winning Romanian director Radu Jude (Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn, Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World), an Italian-Romanian co-production, and by Albanian helmer Gentian Koçi (Daybreak, A Cup of Coffee and New Shoes On); alongside them are two further international films, by ComedyLab 2025 alumna Frédérique de Montblanc and Viktoria Szemeredy, and projects by Italian directors Luigi Pane and Vincenzo Lamagna.
Also selected are six audiovisual professionals: Ixchel Coutino (Mexico/Germany), executive producer at Redrum, one of Latin America’s leading production companies; Cécile Tollu-Polonowski, a Swiss producer with international experience – among her latest titles is Paternal Leave by Alissa Jung – now working at Beauvoir Films; festival producer and industry manager of Rome’s Euro Balkan Film Festival Andrea Damiano; Italian producer Mario Lanti; Carlotta Ricci, producer and collaborator at Kahuna Film; and Jackson Giuricich, a US screenwriter, director and producer based in Paris, where he recently founded Ariane Films. Lastly, five professionals hail from the environmental sustainability sector: Roberta Callico Fortunato (Argentina/Spain), Agathe Duliscouët (France), Spyridoula Loukopoulou (Greece), Antonio Marenco (Italy/Spain) and Selin Sonmez (Turkey/Germany).
The 21 participants will have the opportunity to exchange experiences and skills among themselves, as well as with local and European professionals attending the Green Film Lab Open Session. Kicking off the talks will be Giovanni Pompili with a focus on what it means to be a green producer; this will be followed by a presentation of the Green Film certification by Linnea Merzagora, project manager at Green Film, then a deep dive into the role of the sustainability manager with Norma Cuadros Gonzalez and, to close, a case study curated by naturalist and sustainability consultant Stefano Picchi.
To attend the Open Session, please register by sending an email here by 18 October.
