The best of young European cinema will meet from January 21rst in Angers for the 17th Festival Premiers Plans that has become a major platform for upcoming talent. Until January 30th, no less than 73 first feature films from all over Europe will be part of the programme, as well as film masterclasses, script-reading sessions for the audience and professional seminars.

60 short and feature length films will compete in four categories. In the section First European feature film,a jury presided by actress Jacqueline Bisset and director Claude Miller will choose among 10 films: The Portuguese Andre Valente by Catarina Ruivo, the Austrian Darwin's Nightmare by Hubert Sauper and Hotel by Jessica Hausner, The Hungarian Dealer by Benedek Flieghauf, the French L'Eclaireur by Djibril Glissant, the Italian Saimir by Francesco Munzi and Vento di Terra by Vincenzo Marra, the Norwegian Uno by Aksel Hennie, the Kazakh Schizo by Guka Omarova and the Belgian/Moroccan co-production L' Enfant endormi by Yasmine Kassari.
The other sections will include 9 European short films, 10 French short films and 30 films by Europeam film schools. In total 23 prizes worth € 130 000 will be handed to the winners. Finally there will be a full overview of the new wave in Europe cinema with the out of competition sections " Figures libres" and " Plans suivants", as well as programmes dedicated to Polish talent, to films directed by Femis students, or short films by French-speaking Belgians.
Past award-winning filmmakers at Angers include Fatih Atkin, Arnaud Despleschin, Jim Sheridan, Dagur Kari, Suzanne Bier, Matteo Garrone, Paolo Sorrentino and Nuri Bilge Ceylan.
