Richard Jobson (16 Years of Alcohol) is going to direct French actress Julie Gayet in his third feature film A Woman in Winter which starts shooting this month in Edinburgh.

Jobson -an ex lead singer of the 1970’s punk band The Skids, TV presenter and film critic- is using the latest digital technology for this new project to be shot with a brand new HD format: “With A Woman In Winter, I am trying to show Scottish culture in a positive enlightened way. Hopefully the audience will see that Edinburgh has joined the 21st Century. This is a film about big ideas, and is being made using the very latest digital technology”, explained the director who also wrote the script.
Julie Gayet (La confusion des genres) plays a mysterious French photographer who shares a passionate and destructive love affair with an astronomer. Other actors include British newcomer Jamie Sives (Wilburn), Jason Flemyng and Brian Cox (Troy). The film is produced by Chris Atkins and Hamish Mc Alpine for Vestry Films/S2S/ Tartan Films Production. Tartan who acquired UK rights to the project, co-funded the film with the UK Film Council’s New Cinema Fund (NCF) which put £392,200 into the project.
For Paul Trijbits, Head of the NCF, “Richard Jobson and Chris Atkins are “one of the most productive director/producer teams” in the UK, “constantly embracing new digital technology and using highly effective production techniques to produce unique stories. This latest investment continues the NCF’s avid support of this kind of progressive filmmaking which has already delivered This Is Not a Love Song, Bullet Boy and Tomorrow La Scala!
