‘When we started working on this project, we had no idea where it would take us. It is not a film about pedophilia, it is about being accused of something you have not done.’ Jacob Thuesen was totally aware that Accused (Anklaget) would raise controversy when he presented it in competition in Berlin. However painful and controversial the subject —that is, abused children— is, Thuesen, former specialist in editing, deals with it cautiously and subtly, surprising the spectator with a very tough and completely unexpected conclusion.
The script, written by talented Kim Fupz Aakeson, depicts a swimming teacher suddenly arrested for a most serious crime of which he is accused by his own daughter. Despite his wife’s faithful support, his life is destroyed.

’Ending the film on a confession was quite a dare, but it stimulated us all through the film. We expected it to be controversial though,’ the director points out. This film which is part of ‘Director’s cut’, a project uniting producers and directors, was funded by the Danish Film Institute, Nordisk Film, and TV2 Denmark. The producer is Thomas Heinesen for Nordisk Film AS.
