Mikado Film left Berlin and went back to Italy with a nice set of films, The Bow by Kim Ki-duk, Election by Johnny To (Celluloid Dreams), Takeshi Kitano’s still untitled new project, Mika Kaurismäki’s documentary Brasileirinho, presented in Berlin in the International Forum section and sold by Wide. Since the Sundance Film Festival, Mikado also has the rights for Inside Deep Throat, a documentary film by Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato about Gerard Damiano’s famous Deep Throat (1972) which shall be on the screen in June.
Lucky Red signed a preliminary agreement to buy A Thousand Plateaux (Chungae Eui Gowon), the new film by the Korean Jang Sun-woo. As for Teodora Film’s contracts in Berlin, the company bought the Swedish film Dalecarlians, by Maria Blom (a Zentropa production), which was also in competition at the Rotterdam Film Festival. BR>I.I.F. Italian International Film will start distributing next year in Italy Niall Johnson’s Keeping Mum, starring Rowan Atkinson and Kristin Scott Thomas (a film with a 25 million dollars budget).
Finally, BIM Distribuzione bought the rights for Italy of many interesting movies, Combien tu gagnes? by Bertrand Blier, starring Monica Bellucci and Gérard Depardieu, Sex And Philosophy, by Moshen Makhmalbaf, Savage Grace by Tom Kalin, and the French film in competition in Berlin, Jacques Audiard’s The Beat That my Heart Skipped (Celluloid Dreams).
