Buff kicks off tomorrow

102 films from 22 different countries will screen during the 21rst International Children and Young People’s Film Festival in Malmö (BUFF) from tomorrow 8 March until March 13.
The Festival will open tomorrow with the Norwegian romantic comedy The Colour of Milk by writer/director Torun Lian which just screened at the Berlin Kinderfilmfest. It will compete against seven other new feature films for the 5,500€ City of Malmö Children & Young People’s Film Award: Bonjour Monsieur Shlomi (Israel), Machuca (Chile), Fourteen Sucks (Sweden), Sandor Slash Ida (Sweden), Terkel Gets in Trouble (Denmark), En Garde (Germany) and Pee Stain & Other Disasters (France/USA). The five members jury includes Pelle Svensson and Cornelia Röijner, respectively Chairman and member of the Culture Board, Malmö, Bengt Hall, CEO Culture Office Malmö, Jane Schoettle, Director of Sprocket Film Festival in Toronto and member of the programming group at the Toronto Film Festival, and Reinhold T.Schöffel, MD of Bundesverband Jungend Und Film e.V (BJF). Two other awards will be handed out during the Festival: the Youth Jury Prize and the Buff & Sydsvenskan Achievement Award (3,500€).

This year’s programme also includes a ‘Panorama’ section with 10 children/family films among which Les Choristes (France), Death in Gaza (UK), and Egoshooter (Ger); a ‘New Nordic Film’ section, New Young Swedish Cinema section, Buff classics, Novell films (first feature films), Short films, and School Cinema Projects.
An established film festival aimed at younger audiences and a meeting place for distributors, buyers, script-writers, producers and filmmakers specialized in youth film genre, BUFF is financed by the MEDIA Programme, Nordisk Culture Fund, the Region of Skåne, the City of Malmö and the Swedish Film Institute.
