Cinecittà Holding takes Avati to New York

by

- "Stories of Men and Women", such is the name of the retrospective organized by the BAM film archive to pay tribute to Pupi Avati, Un coeur ailleurs's director. The latter left his shooting to be present at New York's Festival.

A retrospective organised by Cinecittà Holding and the BAM film archivewith the help of the Institute of Italian Culture and entitled "Stories of Men and Women: Pupi Avati" will take place in New York from the 10th to the 20th of March. This event is a tribute to the director of Il cuore altrove (=the heart someplace else) who will interrupt the shooting of his latest work, La seconda notte di nozze (=the second wedding night) to attend. ‘We are really flattered by the interest taken in our cinema here, all the more since the BAM committee includes the greatest critics in New-York,’ says the director.

On the 11th of March, the Institute of Italian Culture will meet the international press. Holding will seize the opportunity to launch its latest publication in two languages, a book presenting Antonio Maraldi’s opinion on his works through a selection of interviews and technical notes.
On the 12th, the BAMCinématek theatre, a great platform for New-York’s cultural life, will host a gala around the screening of Il cuore altrove, which the Los Angeles Times has described as ‘a love story full of tenderness and subtle humour, told in the warm Italian fashion, softly and seductively.’

The film chosen for the opening night, Bix, is actually the only film in English language in the selection ; it is the biography of Leon Bismarck Beiderbecke, the white jazz genius who died in 1931 at only 28. More films will follow : La casa dalle finestre che ridono, Le strelle nel fosso, I cavalieri che fecero l'impresa, La gita scolastica, and Festa di laurea. Storia di ragazzi e ragazze will be screened as a conclusion to the event.
