by Icíar Bollaín, selects every year 10 feature films to compete against one another, 4 of which have to be European (co)productions. Apart from the competition, several other quality works have been scheduled, as, for instance, In your hands [+see also:

by Annette K. Olesen (Denmark), L’Après-midi de M. Andesmas by Michelle Porte (France) which was presented at the opening of the latest edition of the Semaine de la critique in Cannes, and the UK/US production Vanity Fair by Mira Nair. This year’s special guest is Juliette Binoche about whom a little retrospective is organised through the screening of some of her films : Three Colours : Blue, Mauvais sang, Les amants du Pont-Neuf, Le Hussard sur le toit, The English Patient , Code Inconnu, Jetlag , and Chocolate.

All three sections (feature, short film, and documentary) put together, 50 movies are competing. In the main section —features— several films are very promising : Frozen [+see also:

(2004) by Susanne Bier (Denmark), O Diablo a quatro (2004) by Alice de Andrade (a coproduction involving Bresil, France, Switzerland, and Portugal), and Los nombres de Alicia (2003) by Pilar Ruiz Guterriez (Spain). Amongst other events and tributes (from experimental cinema to the young public section, called Graine de Cinéphage), Créteil wished to put an emphasis on the Tricky Women Festival in Vienna, since it is the only women’s festival in Austria, and the only animation film festival dedicated to women in all Europe for that matter.
