One million euros for Italy
In 2004, seventeen Italian projects have been funded by the MEDIA Programme, under the development support section which covers all stages of project conception, from the writing of the script to the selling of the rights.
The MEDIA Programme allows 540 000 euros each to a selection of four fictions, six documentaries, two animation films, and a multimedia project. Four projects get 500 000 euros through the Slate Funding system.
These figures were revealed last week during an informational meeting organised by the Italian Media Desk, in the presence of Corinne Mimran, development manager for MEDIA Plus in charge of selecting the projects, and Soon Mi Peten, Senior Expert at the MEDIA Technical Support Office who handles pre-selection. The purpose of this meeting was to improve Italy’s position within the programme, considering what little part it has in it right now : on 77 applications presented in 2004 and requesting a total amount of 39 million euros, the Itallian projects received hardly more than a million euros, that is, 6.6% of the money allowed by MEDIA, while Germany, France, and the U.K. got respectively 14.8, 14.1, and 12.4%.
