DVD rentals for £1.99 with Easy Cinema
by Annika Pham
By clicking on www.easyCinema.com, Stelios Haji-Ioannu’s easyCinema website, any of the 14 million UK household equipped with a DVD player can now rent a film for only £1.99 on a pay-as-you-go basis with no later fees, choose from a selection of 25,000 DVD titles and keep the DVD for at least three weeks.
Famous for his other customer-friendly services such as Easy Jet or Easy car, Stelios’ easyCinema online DVD rental service is revolutionary both price-wise and choice-wise, offering ten times more films than in UK high street stores at £1.99 each rental compared to the average £3.13 overnight cost from rental stores or £3.50 from the online specialist Amazon.com for a five days rental. The 25,000 titles available online include the latest releases to the oldest classics, classified by genre, collections, or listings by date. The genre section for instance includes foreign/arthouse titles such as Lukas Moodysson’s three films Show Me Love, Together and Lilya 4 Ever and announce the DVD release next May of Moodysson’s latest film A Hole In My Heart distributed by Metrodome.
Easy Cinema’s DVD rental service will be powered by Video Island, leader in the market with a 35% market share. “This is the best value ever when it comes to renting DVDs”, said Saul Klein, CEO of Video Island. "We are delighted to be joining with easyGroup to launch the country’s first ever pay as you go DVD rental service".
Stelios’ DVD rental service is a complement to EasyCinema’s existing low-cost cinema experience provided by the company’s 10-screen multiplex cinema in Milton Keynes, London where customers can buy tickets for a low £2 to £4.50 maximum using the easyCinema online booking service.
"Once again, the easyGroup has lowered prices to customers", commented Stelios. "We are using the website of our cinema business so that customers can choose whether to buy a seat online to visit our movie theatre or whether to rent a DVD to be sent to them". Stelio’s Easy Cinema was launched in May 2003 and is now looking for its second cinema site in the South East of England.
