3,5 euros a film, for three days

Current record: 2,5 million tickets sold in 2004. This year, the 6th edition of the French Printemps du cinéma, organised by the National Cinema Theatres Society (FNCF) on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday might stimulate spectators whose interest in going to the cinema has decreased (by 6,9 % in January and February 2005) by selling any ticket for 3.5 euros in each of the 5,300 theatres in France. This event having always attracted roughly twice as many spectators as on a normal week-end, it will probably attract more attention on the European films currently on the screen and thus maintain their predominant position over American features (this year European films represent 52% —45% for France— of the market while American ones represent only 45%).

Amonst the latest releases (launched on Wednesday) which will benefit from this event, we can mention Tout pour plaire by Cécile Telerman which had very good results on its first day (Diaphana Distribution), just before The Beat That My Heart Skipped [+see also:

As for recent releases which are still running, Gérard Jugnot’s Boudu should increase the figure of 500,000 tickets sold on its first week (Pathé Distribution circulated 458 copies). The Ax by Costa Gavras should also attract more than the 430,000 admissions already computed in two weeks with 324 copies (Mars Distribution). Last but not least, L’Esquive [+see also:

is still gathering the fruits of its victory at the Cesar Awards, with 80,000 more spectators for 72 copies (distributed by Rezo Films Distribution ) in the two weeks that followed the Cesars, which means that its total number of admissions is now 380,000.
