FESTIVALS Italy

A tribute to Victor Erice in Pesaro

by

The International Mostra of New Cinema in Pesaro is turning forty this year.
This festival, directed by Giovanni Spagnoletti, will offer every night, from the 25th of June to the 3d of July, a total of eight premiere night-screenings on the central piazza in Pesaro. The success of last year’s festival should encourage the public to participate and grant their favourite film the Choice of the Public Prize.

A tribute to the great Spanish director Victor Erice (who will attend the festival), including all of his works, will be organised with the support of the Instituto Cervantes and the ICAA.
Another tribute, sponsored by the production and distribution group Kinotar, will be dedicated to one of Europe’s most disregarded cinemas, that is Finnish cinema. The public will thus discover, amongst others, the interesting documentaries and the musical work of Mika Taanila.

One of the festival’s major event is also the special retrospective dedicated to Marco Bellocchio and coordinated by Adriano Aprà with the help of the Fundation and Experimental Film Centre – Cineteca Nazionale. This extraordinary cinematic travel through forty years in the history of Italian cinema will be completed by a seminar and the release of two books on the famous director, one of which gathers pictures.
