by

Ireland’s leading cinema operator, the Ward/Anderson group, has just inaugurated the opening of a 13-screen multiplex at Mahon Point Shopping Center in Cork, the city’s biggest multiplex that cost over 10M€ to build and is said to guarantee the creation of over 70 jobs in the area.
The Omniplex Mahon Point cinema has a total seating capacity of 2,642 and offers the latest in projection and digital sound technology, with gigantic wall-to-wall screens and Dolby Digital sound in all screens. It is located on the first floor of the Mahon Point Shopping Centre, the largest mixed-used commercial development outside Dublin which houses over 50 retail outlets, three restaurants and six food outlets. And by the time the center is fully completed in 2009, it will also include a retail park, hotel, leisure centre, high tech industrial park and offices.

Commenting on the opening of one of their 32 cinema sites in Ireland, Paul Ward, director of Omniplex cinemas said: “It is significant in the year that Cork City is the European capital of Culture, that Mahon Point is able to offer the cinema-going population an appropriate cinema experience. The Omniplex offers a wider choice of films in spacious and luxurious auditoria, at times that suit the leisure time available”.
Similar new Omniplex developments are underway in Galway, Oranmore, Carlow and Tralee.
