Swedes conquer New York

- Sweden’s new talents and brightest stars will be in the Big Apple at the Lincoln Center’s Walter Reade Theater to present their latest works

Sweden’s new talents and brightest stars will be in the Big Apple at the Lincoln Center’s Walter Reade Theater from April 1-7 to present their latest works as part of the showcase “New faces of Swedish cinema + spotlight on Lukas Moodysson’.

The event organized by the Film Society of the Lincoln Center, in collaboration with the Swedish Film Institute and the Consulate General of Sweden in New York, will screen ten shorts and nine feature films, and six directors will be on stage to discuss their work: Lukas Moodysson, Peter Dalle, Maria Blom, Josef Fares, Kristina Humle and Martin Jern.

When announcing the programme’s line-up, the Lincoln Center said: "Swedish filmmakers are renowned for making sensitive, insightful films about the tribulations of growing up –think of Lasse Halström’s My Life As a Dog. The new Swedish directors are just as dedicated to the topic, as evidenced by Kristina Humle’s lovely debut feature Love & Happiness (Krama Mig) or the collectively made Fourteen Sucks (co-directed by Martin Jern)."

Josef Fares whose Jalla Jalla! was a hit in our 2003 Swedish cinema series, is back with his splendid comic follow-up Kops, while actor-director Peter Dalle is here with a highly stylized madcap train thriller, Illusive Tracks (Skenbart). Finally, to open the series we have the US premiere of Dalecarlians [+see also:

(Masjävlar), an impressive debut of director Maria Blom.

Lukas Moodysson will also be on hand to present the premiere of A Hole In My Heart to be released by Newmarket Films in the US.
