Gorgomeesh is shooting in Trieste
- Nora Hoppe and her team, uniting professionals from 16 different countries, is shooting a film coproduced by Germany, France, Slovenia, and Italy, and supported by the regional fund Friuli Venezia Giulia for audiovisual projects.
A team of professionals from 16 different origins started filming yesterday in Trieste the first scenes of Gorgomeesh, by Nora Hoppe, the director from New-York who settled in Berlin. Before this film, her second full-length cinema feature, she worked as Lina Wertmuller’s assistant and directed many projects in Belgium and Russia.
This film, a coproduction involving Germany (Flying Moon) , France (Unlimited), Slovenia (E-motion film/ Vertigo) and Italy (Revolver), is supported by the FVG-Film Fund –Friuli Venezia Giulia fund for audiovisual projects.
The film is about how two outcasts in the consumers’ society meet. Todor, played by Miki Manojlovic (Underground d’Emir Kusturica, La Poudrière de Goran Paskaljevic) is a refugee from Serbia involved in small traffics ; he meets Nilofar (played by the Bulgarian actress Diana Dobreva) who has no choice but to be a prostitute.
The picture director is Rimvydas Leipus, known for his work with the Lithuanian director and several times prize-winner Sharunas Bartas (Freedom, Visions of Europe, Lontano da Dio e dagli Uomini). The cast also includes the Italian actors Luigi Maria Burrano, Giuseppe Battiston, and Orazio Bobbio. Nine members of the staff were hired on the spot for the six weeks it will take to shoot Gorgomeesh.
