The producers’ appeal to the Commission
In a letter published last Friday, 23 European producers’ unions gave the European Commission their opinion on the project for a regulation which would liberalise all services. The producers said they were satisfied with the news that the project was postponed and asked the Commission not to make decision in the future without consulting the relevant professionals first, especially European producers. Furthermore, the 23 producers’ unions ‘strongly suggest the European Commission and the European Parliament should exempt culture and audiovisual activities from the range of matters the new reformed regulation on services will cover’.
This letter whose addressors come from 18 different countries was published in France by the Club des Producteurs européens. It involves three French organisations (API, UPF, CSPF), two German ones (Film 20, Arbeitsgemeinschaft Neuer Deutscher Spiefilmproduznten), an Italian union (API), a Spanish one (FAPAE), and two Belgian ones (UPFF, Vlaamse Producentenbond). We can also note the participation of Austria (FAFO and AAFP, Portugal (APT), the Netherlands (NVS), Norway (Norske Film OGTV Produsenters Forening), Greece (SAPOE), and Luxemburg (ULPA). New European members also joined in, such as the Czech Republic (APA), Estonia (Association of Estonian film producers), Slovenia (GIZ), Lithuania (NPA - Independent Producers Association), Poland (KIPA), and Hungary (Hungarian independent producers association).
