The director of My Little Eye and Resurrection Man has started filming in Ontario (Canada) his new feature film: Snow Cake starring Alan Rickman, Sigourney Weaver and Carrie-Anne Moss (Memento).

Written by Angela Bell, it’s the story of Alex, a tight-lipped Englishman who arrives in Northern Ontario and gives a ride to 19-year old hitch-hiker Vivienne. But the car is hit by a truck and Vivienne dies instantly. Alex finds himself grieving for someone he never knew, and decides to seek out Vivienne’s mother, Linda. He becomes increasingly involved in her life and the community to which she feels complete indifference.

The film is a UK/Canada co-production produced by Andrew Eaton and Gina Carter from Revolution Films and Niv Fichman and Jessica Daniel from Rhombus Media. Fichman behind the Oscar -winning film The Red Violin starring Samuel Jackson, describes Snow Cake as an "exquisitely intimate story exploring some fairly explosive themes –the relationships between damaged and disparate individuals, the meaning of grief and the nature of imperfect love".

The film currently shooting in Wawa, Ontario, will relocate to Toronto at the end of April and will be wrapping on 19 May.

Set up in 1994, Revolution Films is headed by director Michael Winterbottom and Andrew Eaton who previously produced Marc Evans’ Resurrection Man. The company have just completed production on Michael Winterbottom’s new film A Cock And Bull Story, a loose adaptation of Laurence Sterne’s classic English novel ‘The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy’ starring Steve Coogan.
