by

From the 18th to the 25th of April, the international festival Visions du Réel directed by Jean Perret, presents the best of the genre in Nyon, on Lake Leman.

It includes two workshops dedicated, respectively, to the French director Nicolas Philibert (Être et avoir) and the Thai Apichatpong Weerasethakul (Tropical Malady, Jury’s Prize 2004 in Cannes). The official competition will allow the public to discover, amongst other documentaries, Massaker by Monika Borgmann, Lokmann Slim and Hermann Theissen (Germany), which shows six Israeli soldiers remembering their role in the Sabra and Chatila tragedy, as well as Un dragon dans les eaux pures du Caucase by Nino Kirtadze (France), which focuses on a village in Georgia and on how it has managed to resist the power of a great oil company. All included, the competition and the other sections (New Perpectives, Tendences, Swiss Films, Investigations, Workshops, and Special Screenings) will screen 135 films from 31 different countries amongst which Switzerland is particularly well represented this year, bringing, for instance, the opening movie (Peter Entell’s Josh's Trees), as well as Fernand Melgar’s Exit, François Bovy’s Meleodias, Stéphane Goël and Sylvie Rossel’s Sur les traces des pharaons noirs, François Kohler’s Le souffle du désert: des hommes en quête de sens, Alex Mayenfisch’s L'usine, Eric Bergkrau’s Coca – die Traube aus Tschetschien, and more.
