Official selection and Italian distribution

On the 13th of May, the Italian public will discover Quando sei nato non puoi più nasconderti by Marco Tullio Giordana, the one Italian film which has just been selected to run for the Golden Palm in Cannes. It will be distributed by 01.
The Istituto Luce got the rights for Free Zone, by Amos Gitai, while the film was still in the making. This brilliant comedy, starring Natalie Portman, Hanna Laslo and Hyam Abbas, was shot in Israel and Jordan. It is a road movie involving three women forced to share an adventure. While on the set, the director had to face the attacks of a group of orthodox Jews who were shocked by a kiss-scene between Portman and the actor Aki Avni because it was shot near a holy place. This film was coproduced by France, Spain, Belgium, and Israel.
As for Bim, the company has just confirmed that Last Days by Gus Van Sant, also in competition in Cannes, was bought from HBO London. This film, starring Michael Pitt, Asia Argento, and Lukas Haas, was inspired from the life of Kurt Cobain, the late leader of Nirvana who ended up committing suicide. It will be released in Italy on the 20th of May. The distribution company, directed by Valerio De Paolis, will also handle the Austrian director Michael Haneke’s Caché, since Bim was one of its coproducers.
Don't Come Knockin' by Wim Wenders, starring Sam Shepard, Jessica Lange, and Tim Roth, will be distributed by Mikado. As for Medusa, it has just added Woody Allen’s Match Point to its line-up ; the film should be released in October.
Last but not least, Star Wars III – Revenge of the Sith, the last episode of the great saga by George Lucas, will be released on the 20th of May by Twentieth Century Fox. Sin City by Robert Rodriguez, should come out at the end of June (Buena Vista).
